Sam Ashworth, General Studies ‘09, English Sam’s academic pursuits include James Joyce, Chinese language and contemporary culture, and Jewish humor. His extracurricular pursuits include trying reconcile these three in his head. |

Austin Barney, General Studies ‘08, East Asian Studies Austin is from Simsbury, Connecticut and studies Tibet, China, and Inner Asia. Between high school and college he worked as a session guitarist in New York City. He enjoys traveling and learning about other people and places. Austin is also interested in science, film, literature, philosophy, adventure and exploration, among other things. |

Elizabeth Berger, Columbia College ‘09, Archaeology and Linguistics Liz Berger is from Western Massachusetts, where she attended high school before coming to Columbia. She is interested in Ancient history, archaeology, and historical linguistics. She loves New York, and is happy to be living in the city where her family comes from. She likes getting lost at the Museum of Natural History, and exploring coffee shops around Manhattan. |

Jenny Chen, Columbia College ‘10, Political Science & Economics Jenny has enjoyed participating as both a Reviewer and as the Invitations Coordinator for this inaugural East Asian Symposium. Her fingers are crossed for a great afternoon of enlightening discussion and invigorating debate. |

Katie Forer, Barnard ‘09, East Asian Studies, Review Board Chair Katie is currently studying economic history in China. She is particularly interested in the legal structures that define China’s current economic development and hopes to build a career in corporate law and Chinese legal studies. She is doing research on Shanghai under the GMD and the networks of underground gangs that governed and policed the city, and hopes to travel there this summer to continue her research. She also enjoys American, Russian, and British literature and creative writing. |

Angela Lu, Columbia College ‘10, East Asian Studies Angela’s academic focus is on Chinese and Japanese politics and law. Angela is originally from Los Angeles, California. Her first time visiting New York was in April 2006. Since then, she’s been loving life in the Big Apple. In her spare time, she enjoys trips to museums, evenings at the opera, all-nighters in Starbucks, and big dinner parties in Koreatown. |

Tedde Tsang, Columbia College ‘08, East Asian Studies Tedde has conducted field research in Beijing on ideal mate selection for his senior thesis, which uses statistical methods to study demand in the marriage market of contemporary urban Chinese youth. Tedde is also Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia East Asia Review, a partner organization of the Symposium. |
