Amy Chen Amy Chen, Event Coordinator and Treasurer
Amy, Barnard ‘10, is majoring in Political Economy. She has enjoyed planning this Symposium since last October and she is proud of everyone involved. Amy has traveled to East Asia many times, mostly to Taiwan. She has also visited Hong Kong, Beijing, Xiamen, Hangzhou and Shanghai, where she spent the summer studying abroad.
Jenny Chen Jenny Chen, Invitations Coordinator and Reviewer
Jenny, Columbia ‘10, is majoring in Political Science and Economics. She has enjoyed participating as both a Reviewer and as the Invitations Coordinator for this inaugural East Asian Symposium. Her fingers are crossed for a great afternoon of enlightening discussion and invigorating debate.
Charlotte Chiang Charlotte Chiang, EALAC Department Liaison
Charlotte, Columbia ‘09, is majoring in East Asian Studies and Sustainable Development, focusing on Chinese politics and environmental studies. She feels that working on the Symposium and being exposed to other students’ unique knowledge of and passion for East Asian studies - her own field of interest - has been a wonderfully inspirational experience.

Jennifer, Columbia ‘09, is majoring in East Asian Studies.
Katie Forer Katie Forer, Review Board Chair
Katie is currently studying economic history in China. She is particularly interested in the legal structures that define China’s current economic development and hopes to build a career in corporate law and Chinese legal studies. She is doing research on Shanghai under the GMD and the networks of underground gangs that governed and policed the city, and hopes to travel there this summer to continue her research. She also enjoys American, Russian, and British literature and creative writing.
Wei Wei Hsing Wei Wei Hsing, Symposium Chair
Wei Wei, Columbia ‘08, is majoring in Economics and East Asian Studies with a focus in Chinese politics and society. Her senior thesis explored new legal strategies of Hong Kong labor organizations. She conducted field research for the thesis in Hong Kong in Summer 2007 under the Weatherhead Undergraduate Training Grant. Wei Wei is an intern at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and the National Committee on US-China Relations.
Angela Lu Angela Lu, EALAC Department Liaison and Reviewer
Angela, Columbia ‘10, is majoring in East Asian Studies with a focus on Chinese and Japanese politics and law. Angela is originally from Los Angeles, California. Her first time visiting New York was in April 2006. Since then, she’s been loving life in the Big Apple. In her spare time, she enjoys trips to museums, evenings at the opera, all-nighters in Starbucks, and big dinner parties in Koreatown.
Katherine Rooney Katherine Rooney, Publicity Co-Director
Katie, Barnard ‘10, is majoring in East Asian Studies with a focus on Chinese history. She is also pursuing a minor in economics. Her interests include literature and linguistics. She studied Mandarin in Beijing in Summer 2007 and plans to spend this summer interning in Shanghai.
Jeremy Tapp Jeremy Tapp, Publicity Co-Director
Jeremy, Columbia ‘11, is majoring in East Asian Languages and Cultures and Economics. He is interested in studying China, economics, literature, and philosophy. He is originally from England and loves British comedy and music, especially Muse and Bloc Party. He hopes to live in Shanghai after graduation and is currently struggling to master the Chinese language.
Tedde Tsang Tedde Tsang, Design Coordinator and Reviewer
Tedde, Columbia ‘08, is majoring in East Asian Studies with a focus in political science. He has conducted field research in Beijing on ideal mate selection for his senior thesis, which uses statistical methods to study demand in the marriage market of contemporary urban Chinese youth. Tedde is also Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia East Asia Review, a partner organization of the Symposium.
